This is the first album I ever released. It is my self-portrait in music, recorded and self-released in 1977 when I was 26 years of age. I played all instruments via multitrack analogue recording, even though I already had a very good live band during those years. My deepest wish was to do it all by myself. It was based on my handwritten text on the interior of the sleeve: “I discover a lot of streams in me, which tend to drive me to different sides, to different places. Some are strong and force me. The others are weak, but they give the important little changes of color, just enough to be seen, to be heard, to be felt. Where are the sources of these streams and their branches? In Suriname, Africa, America, or simply in you? That’s not my problem. The fun is: To make music. Just enjoy your own subjective way. It Will Never End”.
Many people who know my music consider it as one of my best albums. The choice for the title ‘Natural Sources' has two reasons. First, the feeling to make it was very natural and based on my own artistic sources. Second, the fact that I had been studying drinking water as a part of studying Civil Engineering at the Technical University in Delft, Netherlands from 1970 to 1975.
